About Me

I still surprise myself when I tell someone I’m an artist.  It snuck up on me, one day I was an admirer of art and the next I was throwing paint on a canvas and my passion was born.   That was six years ago.

I am a New Mexico Artist where Native American and Southwestern influence is in the fabric of the air. I was blessed to live in different countries and various places in our beautiful nation. I spent 27 years in Colorado where every day the majesty of the Rockies was ever present and awestruck worthy. I have been asked many times what inspires me to which I have to recognize there is no ONE catalyst. My inspiration is from my soul which belongs to God. I am moved by my family, my friends, the emotional roller coaster we ride in our lives and the creation of nature that is in every glance. As I immerse myself, I am drawn to learn more to be able to express it on canvas. Each piece is unique, original and one of a kind. My inspiration is not tangible, it just is.

When I paint, the noise of the world fades.  It’s rare I try to paint something, it’s about colors and shapes and the blending of the two.  I can’t tell you what I am trying to evoke, I just know when I ‘m done.  Sometimes I just have to walk away and wait.  Often the question is asked regarding how long it takes me to finish a painting.  Inspiration and creation is not ruled by a clock.  There is no time limit. I am amazed at the reactions of friends and family and strangers.  My art wasn’t created as a means to an end, it was created for the pure pleasure of the process.

Welcome to Zohotay, where my passion meets canvas, where dreams are woven in the paint and where you might find some dreams of your own.
